About RailPower
RailPower is a collaboration project led by London South Bank University, exploring the possibility of powering railway infrastructure using the vibration energy created by trains on the track.
In 2023, RailPower was awarded £25,000 through the Catapult Transport Research & Innovation Grant (TRIG) program, funded by the UK's Department of Transport.
This funding has enabled RailPower to build a prototype device as proof of concept, a device that mounts on the rail web and captures the vibration energy that is created when a train passes along the railway tracks.
With our technology at TRL 4, RailPower has validated its technology in a laboratory environment. We now seek international partners in railway infrastructure operations to begin our next round of development.
